Postscript

Does it sorta bother anyone that the song "There She Stands" written by Michael W Smith about the American flag after 9/11 is on a CD titled "Worship Again"? I love this song. I think it is great, but is it worship? I love Old Glory as much as anyone! But to worship her...I think not. What do you guys think?

BTW The Worship Again CD is pretty good! I am not knocking it or MW Smith, just questioning the Song in this context. I try not to give Christian Artist any greif...I'm just glad they do what they do. You go Smitty!

Worship Jesus, not flags. And as much as I love this country, with all of it's flaws, it doesn't fit. I'll sing patriotic songs, but not on a worship album.

I too agree. Two weeks ago our worship service was started with America the Beautiful. I couldn't sing it. I love my country and am proud to be an American, but anything that takes my eyes off God during worship is not right to me. I am glad that I am not the only one who feels this way, last time I brought it up I was made to feel like Bennedict Arnold.

right on! there is a time and place to focus on the flag, but worship is never that time.

I'm right there with you -- and, DJG -- I'm right there with you, too. Everyone now and then someone will get steamed because I won't lead "God Bless America" or something like that. We had a couple of comments to that effect when the 4th of July fell on a Sunday this year. (I did give them "God of Our Fathers" -- that's as close as I'm getting!) I thankful I live in this country; I pay my taxes; I drive American-made cars; I vote. But I worship GOD.

SG,

I am back and should be blogging soon.

About the song: Lots of that going around. But,there are songs that worship God and acknowledge love of country.

My favorite, though was one that was popular back in the 70s that starts out In New York Harbor, there stands a lady, a lady with her torch to the sky, etc. Then the second part of the song parrots the first, except it paints the picture of Christ on the Cross with his hands to the sky. The last part calls Jesus our statue of liberty.

It has been so long since I've heard it, I have forgotten some of the words, but the message it sent was there is a statue of liberty, and then there is THE STATUE OF LIBERTY --Christ.
